![]() Our first week of ISM was an assessment of my creativity and skills in leadership. We were grouped in fours, and we were tasked with building the tallest structure possible with toothpicks, tape, and a Styrofoam cup. Our group had several ideas on how to approach the task, but we were restricted by a short time limit and a lack of supplies. As you can see in the picture, our tower was about as structurally sound as my left arm. It was not very impressive. However, the assignment helped us get a gauge of our peers, and evaluate our skills under pressure. I was absent in our second day because I had an appointment for my fractured wrist. A long arm cast was implemented which restricted my movement for the next couple of weeks. Later, we were assigned with building our professional profile. This included our resume, a LinkedIn profile, and a personal website. As we worked on this, I realized the true emphasis on the independent part on Independent Study & Mentorship. Although we were given certain guidelines, we had the freedom to choose how to present ourselves. However, my classmates were more than willing to criticize any faults they observe. I was astonished by the work I managed to complete so far. As of now, I have formulated my mission statement, chosen my quote, created the framework for this website, found a multitude of contacts for potential mentors, and researched basic information about my field of study I hope to remain this motivated for studying sports medicine throughout the year! By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. - Benjamin Franklin
