![]() I received some unfortunate news this week. My instructor for the ISM program, Mr. Wysong will be leaving the school in order to focus on his clothing line, Tumbleweed TexStyles. Although it is unfortunate to lose someone who has played a major role in creating our personal brand, I am glad to hear that he is ultimately thriving in his own affairs. He always advocated taking risks, and I respect the fact that he follows the same philosophy. I look forward to seeing where his business will take him later in life. I spent this week thinking about Final Product Presentation plans. Mr. Wysong explained how the layout of how the night will go this week now in order to give us a chance to think about our design. Unlike last year’s FPN, our’s will take place in our gym. We will have a lot more freedom for our designs as compared to Research Showcase in the Star. Nonetheless, I will most likely keep the same design for my board. Two laptops attached to the board looks interesting, and I plan on keeping a similar design for May 19th. I will make adjustments afterwards considering the fact that I want to showcase my final product more than my original work. I will consider this when creating my board. ![]() Usually, I try to not include any issues regarding my personal life to a minimum on these reports. However, I believe it is necessary to document my thoughts on the recent events regarding our Muslim Student Association (MSA). As an officer for the organization, it is imperative that I maintain a healthy public reputation for the school and the community. After the KERA podcast was released, Andrew Leonie, the Attorney General, presented an open letter to Frisco ISD. It mentioned how the prayer room on campus seems to be presented only for Muslim students. As a result, this would be a clear example of favored preference to a certain group of students rather than everyone. Dr. Jeremy Lyon, the superintendent for Frisco ISD, refuted the proposition by underlining how the room is for every student on campus. I deliver the services in these prayer rooms every Friday at 2:00 P.M. Therefore, I knew my say with any reporter should be valued. With that in mind, I hope to emphasize certain points regarding the prayer room. Firstly, this is a privilege given to us by Principal Warstler, and it can be taken away if it impedes on the learning environment. Secondly, the room is a quiet meditation room for every student, regardless of faith. Unfortunately, this misconception mainly arrived due to the fact that nearly everyone who visited the room was muslim; therefore, it is my personal responsibility to advertise the prayer room for anyone who wishes to perform their religious practices. With these points in mind, I hope to continue the program as usual all the while mitigating issues people may have. ![]() My spring break was mainly spent with my family. As a result, I did not work on anything with ISM specifically. Nonetheless, it was still time well spent. KERA’s Stella Chavez published her article regarding increasing diversity among public schools in which I was featured as a speaker. The podcast was also mentioned Jay Schlaegal’s “Let’s Talk” forum, an ISM project from last year. I am glad to see a largely unbiased portrayal of multiple perspectives regarding the subject matter. In addition, it is great to see ISM’s work having a direct impact outside of the school itself as it reaches out to National Public Radio. Personally, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. As for future prospects for the remainder of the year, I have to begin working on the final product. Unfortunately, Dr. Wells is out on a conference in San Diego. Nonetheless, I hope to be contacting more engineers and learning more about custom implants. I’m sure I will get more opportunities to observe my mentor in his day-to-day work. Overall, I am very excited to see where I can continue with my project and personal brand. Although the podcast is not directly related to my work, I am still proud of it and willing to showcase it to my peers. Rest and be thankful - William Wadsworth
